  • What do I need to know when buying an embroidery machine?

Posted by admin on August 27th, 2009 and filed under embroidery |

My mother-in-law asked me to help her pick one out. I thought it would be easy seeing as how I know sewing machines fairly well, but it seems embroidery machines are in a whole different ballpark. Any tips &/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If she is just wanting a machine to embellish the items she sews, maybe you should get a machine that allows her to sew and embroider on the same machine. I have only used ones in Home Ec classes over 10 years ago, but those machines were combo machines.

Aparrantly you can choose mechanical, electric and computerized machines. If she is making her own patterns, she needs computerized. More simple additions can be easily done using an electric model. It also looks like Singer, Elna, Brother, etc all make embroidery machines, so go with the brand you like and help her choose one as fancy as she needs.
